Bloom Energy Fuel Cell or the Bloom Box was featured in tonight’s episode of CBS TV show “60 Minutes.’ Bloom Energy unveiled the tiny Bloom Box that will generate your own electricity from your backyard, wireless. The idea is to one day replace the big power plants and transmission line grid, the way the laptop moved in on the desktop and cell phones supplanted landlines.
In the world of energy, the Holy Grail is a power source that’s inexpensive and clean, with no emissions. Well over 100 start-ups in Silicon Valley are working on it, and one of them, Bloom Energy, is about to make public its invention: a little power plant-in-a-box they want to put literally in your backyard. You’ll generate your own electricity with the box and it’ll be wireless. The idea is to one day replace the big power plants and transmission line grid, the way the laptop moved in on the desktop and cell phones supplanted landline.
With the clean energy global initiative being one of the most focused on in the world, these boxes are said to be able to run clean and inexpensively. Major companies are said to be involved in the experimental testing including Google and Ebay.
The concept could allow households to generate their own electricity right from their backyard. It’s a completely wireless and inexpensive technology that Bloom Energy is hoping will replace the need for power plants and grids. The company is hoping to see this technology used in every household in the future. Bloom Energy is one of 100 companies that has been working on a technology of this sort, but is among the first to make an offering for its company stock to the public. That has investors salivating at the potential for one hot energy/technology stock.
