Houston Weathe Snow and cold weather dominate weekend forecast
Rare snow in the South: Cold air will meet a developing system along the Gulf Coast to produce areas of snow in some places that typically don’t see snow. The heaviest totals will be in an area from northeast of Houston to north of Lake Charles to Alexandria, La., turning to rain showers later in the weekend. Highs will be colder than average nearly region-wide with the one exception being south Florida, where temperatures will be in the lower 80s.
Northeast gets colder: A storm system moving up the coast on Saturday will result in several inches of snow in a narrow band centering from Roanoke to Baltimore. Rain and a rain and snow mix will spread up the coast from Norfolk to Boston. An accumulation of snow is possible in the Boston area by Sunday morning.
Chilly in the Midwest: Light snow and flurries will fly around over portions Wisconsin and Minnesota. The rest of the region can expect dry and seasonably cold conditions.
Snowy in the West: A new front will bring snow to the northern Rockies. Significant snow accumulations will create travel problems in a large part of Montana on Saturday. Snow and cold will continue to push southward behind the front reaching the central Rockies by Sunday.
